 There are two ways you can renew your car tabs.  

Click the link below to open a new window for the DOL Online Services and when you select our office you can choose to pick up same day at our express counter or we will mail your tabs to you on the next business day. Be sure to select:

DOL Renew Tabs Online 

Visit our office between 8 a.m. – 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. 

Use the tablet near the entrance to indicate the reason for your visit and our staff will be right with you.

Pro Tip: Mondays and Fridays tend to be our busiest days, as do lunchtime and the last days of the month, so please plan accordingly and visit us mid-week if your schedule permits.

You can calculate estimated vehicle tab fees by using this DOL tool. 

If you are a resident of King, Pierce, or Snohomish county and live within the Sound Transit District, you may also be required to pay the Regional Transit Authority (RTA) excise tax, which can be calculated here.

Registered owners may authorize a representative to pick up the owner’s tabs or plates in our office. 

The authorized representative must present:

• Valid photo ID, and
• Either (a) a Power of Attorney or (b) a written permission such as a note or a personal check of the registered owner either of which containing:
• Name and signature of registered owners, and
• Plate number, VIN, registration number, or HIN

If you are stationed outside of Washington when your tabs expire, you may apply for an extension of your expiration date.

If your current tabs expired less than 12 months ago, you will get a new full-year registration period. Please gather these three items and mail them to our office and we will process your application for a new registration period:

• Your tab renewal notice
• Copy of your military orders
• Check/money order payable to DOL
